With each one of Peninsula Homes homes being a one-off design, the specification of each can allow us the use of interesting materials. It is this part of the design process that we enjoy with our clients, collaborating on the most exciting way to incorporate these finishes. A client in North Curl Curl had a love of industrial and reclaimed products. This saw the inclusion, in their home, of polished concrete floors, reclaimed bricks and rusting coreten steel. To compliment all of these industrial features, we specified Havwoods Genuine Reclaimed Barn Oak Engineered timber in a number of key areas. The use of this unique timber, whilst providing striking features, also gave the home warmth it needed to compliment the industrial feel.

The grandest of these features was a 2.4m wide barn style sliding door that allowed the closure of the formal lounge area, whilst adding a striking feature to the homes entry foyer.

Skilful joinery was used to create a substantial custom piece in a hallway recess, balustrade capping and a floating fireplace shelf that makes a stunning addition to the living room.

The home also had many structural steel elements, one of which is a steel post near the stairwell in the living room. This was also seamlessly clad in the Barn Oak, which turned a less desirable element into and authentic looking part of the structure.

This home, so unique in it’s finishes, caught the eye of the television show, Best Houses Australia, in which it ultimately featured on in 2015.
