The brief was to design and build a functional home to suit this young family both now and into the future. Situated on the lake, we needed to address the council flood regulations and overcome foundational challenges to ensure the longterm integrity of the home. Above all, we wanted to design and build a home that would suit the amazing coastal location.
Our clients came to us knowing that they didn't want a cookie cutter home. They wanted something uniquely theirs, that worked with the land, preserved their privacy and used low maintenance materials to suit the coastal environment.
Central to the design, was the need to build up and away from the flood water level as ground level was a mere 2.0m above sea level. To do this and maintain that lovely lakeside vibe, we employed a very open subfloor structure together with a suspended concrete slab floor. Not only enhancing thermal efficiency, this design allowed large spans and overhangs so that plants could be grown to spill out underneath and around the home.
Our clients chose a soft and calming colour palette resulting in this home being a place of sanctuary. The lake views are ever present as you move about the home, while an all important sense of privacy and homely comfort is maintained.
