This home came to us as an architect designed alterations and additions with DA approval. The clients entrusted us to amend the original design to maximise a new approach and to realise the true potential of the home.
A series of considered design enhancements transformed the outcome:
- raising the existing ground floor by 450mm to algin seamlessly with the alfresco level, strengthening the indoor and outdoor connection
- ground floor cill heights were adjusted to enhance privacy from neighbouring properties without compromising the ocean views
- raise first floor height by 150mm, to capture even better views
- externally, the implementation of exposed concrete, structural steel and spotted gum timbers to create a striking coastal facade
Thermal comfort and energy efficiency were central to the design approach. A combination of louvres and expansive double-glazed panels promote natural cross-ventilation, drawing cooling sea breezes through the home. Handcrafted spotted gum brise soleils, not only deliver a distinctive architectural feature, but also provide effective solar control - reducing heat gain in summer while allowing winter sunlight to filter through. Underfloor heating, solar integration and high-performance insulation further enhance year-round comfort and efficiency.
The end result is a home with an aesthetic material mix and colour palette producing a sophisticated and timeless beachside home.
